The word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
Jeremiah 1:4-5 NIV
Let’s not skip over the significance of these words. God Almighty is speaking personally to Jeremiah, saying so much in so few sentences.
We learn that God knows Jeremiah intimately, not only creating his life but also consecrating him before he ever existed.
The Lord set apart and appointed Jeremiah, assigning a specific purpose for his life, a role that only he could fulfill.
Jeremiah had a God-given destiny. And so do you.
God thought about you long before you were ever conceived. You’re alive at this time not by coincidence.
Your presence on earth means God has great plans for you … plans to bring him glory and advance his kingdom.
The places you frequent and the people you know aren’t accidental. God wants to reach others through you.
Psalm 139:16 says that God has a dream for you, with every day of your life recorded in his book.
I sense God saying, though, that we’re too easily satisfied. We think we can write a better story. So we end up staying small and settling for so much less than his best.
But that doesn’t have to be the case! Regardless of your current circumstances or past mistakes, it’s not too late.
God longs to do mighty things in you and through you. He delights in who he’s made you to be. And he’s calling you today.
Will you take him at his word? He wants your wholehearted yes.
