Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.
Psalm 119:18 NIV
What if you decided to memorize this simple, stunning sentence and say it out loud often?
Some days I don’t always know the words to pray. Have you ever felt that way?
That’s why I love the Psalms, especially Psalm 119.
I know, I know. It’s a marathon … 176 verses! But when you break it down, you’ll find ample conversation starters for your time with the Lord.
Verse 18 signals that our senses need sharpening. We need the Holy Spirit to illuminate what we see and what we hear.
When large crowds would come to see Jesus and hear him speak, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.” (Luke 8:8)
Not everyone took his teachings to heart. Many failed (or refused) to notice the beauty of his words and his daily walk, which spelled out and personified God’s law.
But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it — not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it — they will be blessed in what they do.
James 1:25 NIV
God’s law is good. It grounds us in reality and reveals his character. So seek his face and ask him to help you see and hear the same old things in a new way today.
