Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Psalm 91:1-2 NIV
It seems to me that our society is becoming increasingly risk-averse.
The problem? The world is a dangerous place. Living will always require risk.
That’s why I love Psalm 91. It points me to the only true source of protection.
As I’ve been memorizing and meditating on the first few verses, what emerges is a powerful picture of how we’re made to live.
We’re invited to dwell (remain, sit, abide) in God’s presence. Always.
It’s a lifestyle of rest, fullness, and freedom.
As we lean on the Lord and learn to trust him in all circumstances, fear is broken and burdens are lifted.
In Matthew 11, Jesus invites you and me to come to him, exchanging our heavy loads for his easy yoke.
He has good work for you out in the world, despite its dangers. Yet you’re never alone or without help when you’re linked with Jesus.
Read the rest of Psalm 91 today and declare (out loud!) its promises over your life. Whatever you’re facing, God’s got you covered.
